PRODUCT & TECHNOLOGY PRACTICE

Fermi & Frost —
product expertise & technology delivery.

We help you understand who needs your product, what problem it should solve, how it can make money and what is actually worth building. Once the direction is clear, we can assemble the team and take it into production.

HOW WE THINK

Portrait of the Fermi & Frost director

Research can be precise, design exceptional and code flawless. None of that is enough if nobody takes responsibility for the whole product.

That is why we do not treat strategy, analytics, design and development as independent stages. One logic has to run through them: who needs the product, what value it creates, how the business makes money and what needs to be built.

FERMI & FROST
A SYSTEM FOR BETTER DECISIONS

PRODUCT SYSTEM

One product. Four dimensions that must work together.

Demand, economics, behaviour and technology exist at the same time. Strong product work begins when decisions in one dimension stop undermining the others.

MARKET × ECONOMICS × PRODUCT × TECHNOLOGY

FERMI & FROST / PRODUCT SYSTEM

MARKET / DEMAND

Do not just find an audience.
Find the moment
when demand appears.

Who is switching from their current solution — and why now?

We look beyond user profiles to the context of a choice: what task arises, how people handle it today, what frustrates them and what triggers a search for an alternative.

The result is not an abstract target audience, but a segment with observable behaviour and a reason to buy.

What we investigate

  1. Market structure
  2. Segmentation
  3. JTBD
  4. Switching triggers
  5. Competitive alternatives

OUTPUT — where value is created and which customers to start with.

ECONOMICS / STRATEGY

Do not prove
that the idea is good.
Prove that it can work as a business.

Customer value must stand up to business economics.

We compare not just ideas but their consequences: what it costs to acquire a customer, how much value can be monetised, how quickly investment pays back and what happens to the model as it grows.

A product can delight users and grow its metrics — yet still be a poor business.

What we calculate

  1. Unit economics
  2. Pricing
  3. Monetization
  4. P&L
  5. GTM
  6. Growth model

OUTPUT — a scenario that makes sense to invest in.

PRODUCT / BEHAVIOUR

Do not just ship more.
Change behaviour
at the right point.

A feature has no value on its own. What matters is what users start doing because of it.

We connect product changes to observable behaviour: where people fail to see value, fail to reach a result or stop returning, and which change could shift the system.

Metrics are not there to fill a report. They help us choose the next move.

What we test

  1. Product strategy
  2. Metrics tree
  3. Funnels
  4. Cohorts
  5. Experiments
  6. Prioritization

OUTPUT — a hypothesis, a success metric and the next experiment.

DESIGN / ENGINEERING

Do not just hand a solution
over to engineering.
Keep its meaning intact through production.

Context should not disappear between strategy, design and engineering.

Once the direction is clear, we turn it into an interface, an architecture and a working system. Engineering decisions continue the product logic instead of starting a separate life after a specification is handed over.

Where needed, we assemble the whole delivery team: from product and UX to backend, data, QA and infrastructure.

What we assemble

  1. Product
  2. UX/UI
  3. Frontend
  4. Backend
  5. Mobile
  6. Data / AI
  7. QA
  8. DevOps

OUTPUT — a product delivered to production without losing its purpose.

WHERE DECISIONS BREAK DOWN

Where things usually break.

The problem rarely looks like “we have a bad product”. It usually starts much earlier: a team treats an assumption as fact, studies data without making a decision, optimises the wrong metric or moves very quickly in the wrong direction.

01 / ASSUMPTIONS

HYPOTHESIS ? FACT UNTESTED

A hypothesis becomes a fact

The team starts building a solution before anyone has tested the central assumption about the customer or the value.

02 / DATA

DATA DECISION?

There is data. There is no decision.

The team knows conversion, retention and dozens of other metrics, but still cannot tell what to change in the product first.

03 / ALIGNMENT

Mona Lisa in blue, pink and scarlet tones against a dark background

Everyone sees a different picture

The founder, sales, marketing and engineering understand customers and priorities differently. Each ends up optimising their own part of the product.

04 / ECONOMICS

SIGN-UPS ↗ VALUE ↘ MORE ≠ BETTER

Metrics grow. The business may not.

More traffic, sign-ups or orders do not necessarily mean more value. Sometimes growth simply scales weak economics faster.

05 / DIRECTION

DELIVERY VALUE?

Plenty of speed. An uncertain direction.

Releases ship, tasks close and the team stays busy. But nobody can confidently answer the key question: is any of this taking the product closer to the result it needs?

FROM DATA TO DECISIONS

How data becomes a decision.

Smena is a service for small manufacturers. We examine the path from initial interest to the first scheduled order: where value gets lost and what should change first.

B2B PRODUCTION / PRODUCT CONCEPT

From sign-up
to a first usable production plan.

You should not have to configure the entire factory to see the value of the service. We designed a short path from a single order to a clear work plan.

HOW WE WORK

From a question
to production.

WE JOIN AT ANY STAGE

Idea → Validation → Product → Scale

01 / UNDERSTAND

Understand

What is happening now?

Bring together the market, customer, data, economics and constraints. Separate facts from assumptions.

02 / CHOOSE

Choose

Where is the best next move?

Compare segments and options, then choose a direction with sufficient value and clear economics.

03 / TEST

Test

Which assumption would be most costly to get wrong?

Test the key hypothesis as quickly and cheaply as possible before committing to major development.

04 / BUILD

Build

What is now worth making?

Bring in design and engineering, ship the solution and observe real user behaviour.

Not every project goes through all four stages with us. Fermi & Frost can join wherever your challenge is today.

YOUR CHALLENGES

What clients usually come to us with.

◧ — 001 / 03

You have an idea for a new product

You need to understand who needs it, whether it is worth building and where to start.

Too many possible directions

There are dozens of ideas and limited team capacity. You need to decide where to invest now and what to deliberately leave out.

TEAM

Once you know what to do, you need people who can do it.

We add a missing capability or assemble the whole team. We do not sell a fixed “package of five developers”: the product challenge determines the team.

FIELD NOTES

How we work through product challenges.

All articles

We write about situations where the simple answer is usually wrong: growth without sound economics, analytics without decisions, segmentation without choices and development before the key hypothesis is tested.
